Ingredients
  

For the cookie dough
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened Let the butter sit at room temperature to soften.
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup white sugar
  • 2 large eggs Room temperature is best.
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour Sifted if necessary.
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup M&M candies (red and pink for Valentine’s Day) Feel free to use other colors for different occasions.
  • 1/2 cup chocolate chips (optional) Use your favorite chocolate chip type.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter, brown sugar, and white sugar until smooth.
  3. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla.
  4. In another bowl, combine the flour, baking soda, and salt.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture.
  6. Fold in the M&M candies and chocolate chips if using.
  7. Drop by rounded tablespoons onto ungreased cookie sheets.
Baking
  1. Bake for 8-10 minutes or until the edges are lightly golden.
  2. Allow to cool on the cookie sheets for a few minutes before transferring to wire racks to cool completely.

Notes

Keep cookies fresh for up to one week in an airtight container. Dough balls can be frozen for up to three months. For best results, refrigerate sticky dough for 30 minutes before working with it.
