Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
- In a large bowl, combine the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- Add the eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla to the dry ingredients and mix until well combined.
- Slowly stir in the boiling water until the batter is smooth.
- Pour the batter evenly into the prepared pans and bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to wire racks to cool completely.
Frosting and Assembly
- For the frosting, beat the softened butter until creamy.
- Gradually add powdered sugar and heavy cream while continuing to beat. Add vanilla and mix until smooth.
- Color the frosting with red food coloring to your liking.
- Once the cakes are cool, frost the top of one layer, place the second layer on top, and frost the top and sides of the cake.
- Decorate with sprinkles or other decorations as desired.
Notes
Store the cake in an airtight container in the fridge for about 3-5 days. Freeze slices for up to 3 months.
