Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 1 loaf brioche (or challah, or French bread, cut into 1-inch cubes)
  • 6 large eggs
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter (melted)

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F.
  2. Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish with butter or nonstick spray.
  3. Spread the bread cubes evenly in the prepared dish.
  4. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, and salt until well combined.
  5. Pour the egg mixture evenly over the bread, pressing the bread down lightly so it absorbs the liquid.
  6. Drizzle melted butter over the top.
  7. Let sit for 10 minutes to allow the bread to soak up the custard.
Baking
  1. Bake uncovered for 40 minutes or until the top is golden brown and the center is set.
  2. Remove from oven and let cool slightly before serving.

Notes

Serve warm with maple syrup, powdered sugar, or fresh berries. For best results, use day-old bread and consider adding chocolate chips or nuts. Leftovers keep well in the fridge for 3-5 days or freeze for up to a month.
