Ingredients
  

Meat
  • 1 lb ground beef Can substitute with ground turkey or plant-based meat.
Vegetables
  • 1 cup sliced mushrooms
  • 1 shallot (chopped)
  • 2 cloves garlic (minced)
Sauce
  • 3 tbsp butter
  • 3 tbsp gluten-free or all-purpose flour
  • 1.5 cups chicken or beef broth
  • 1 cup milk (use skim)
  • 2 tbsp gluten-free tamari or soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp ketchup
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/4 tsp smoked paprika

  • 2 lb bag tater tots Follow the baking instructions on the bag.
Seasonings
  • Salt and pepper To taste.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven according to the tater tot bag instructions.
  2. In a large, oven-proof skillet, brown the ground beef over medium-high heat and season with salt and pepper. Drain and set aside.
  3. Reduce heat to medium and melt butter in the skillet. Add mushrooms and shallots, seasoning with salt and pepper. Sauté for 3-5 minutes until softened.
  4. Add garlic and sauté for an additional minute.
  5. Sprinkle flour into the skillet and whisk until combined; cook for 1 minute.
  6. Gradually pour in chicken broth and milk, whisking continuously to avoid lumps.
  7. Stir in tamari or soy sauce, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, and smoked paprika. Increase heat slightly until bubbling, then simmer for 2-3 minutes until slightly thickened.
  8. Remove from heat and mix in the ground beef.
  9. Arrange tater tots on top of the mixture.
  10. Bake according to tater tot bag instructions, placing the skillet on a baking sheet.
  11. Allow to sit for 5 minutes before serving.

Notes

Leftovers can be stored in the fridge for 3-4 days or frozen for up to 3 months. Reheat in the oven until warmed through.
