Ingredients
  

Dry Ingredients
  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
Wet Ingredients
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 large eggs
Mix-Ins
  • 2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 cup chopped nuts (optional)

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper or silicone mats.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar for 2-3 minutes until fluffy.
  4. Add the vanilla extract and eggs one at a time, mixing thoroughly after each addition.
  5. Gradually add the dry mixture to the wet mixture on low speed, mixing until just combined.
  6. Fold in the chocolate chips and nuts, if using.
Baking
  1. Drop rounded balls of dough onto prepared baking sheets, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
  2. Bake for 9-11 minutes until the edges are lightly golden and the centers remain soft.
  3. Let cookies cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.

Notes

For an even softer cookie, slightly underbake them. Store cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week or freeze for up to three months. Reheat in the oven or microwave as needed.
