Ingredients
  

For the Marinade
  • 1 lb beef strips (sirloin or ribeye) Cut beef thinly for quicker cooking.
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp grated fresh ginger
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp oyster sauce (optional) Can substitute with a mix of soy sauce and a bit of sugar.
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
For the Sauce
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp oyster sauce (optional)
  • 2 tbsp hoisin sauce
  • 2 tbsp rice vinegar
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch
For the Stir-Fry
  • 1 large onion, sliced
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil For searing the beef.
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Method
 

Prepare the Steak
  1. In a bowl, whisk together soy sauce, oyster sauce, ginger, garlic, and sesame oil.
  2. Toss the beef strips in the marinade and let them sit for 10-15 minutes.
Cook the Onions
  1. Heat 1 tbsp vegetable oil in a skillet over medium heat.
  2. Add sliced onions and sauté until soft and slightly caramelized.
  3. Season with salt and pepper, then remove from the pan and set aside.
Sear the Beef
  1. In the same pan, heat 2 tbsp vegetable oil over high heat.
  2. Add the marinated beef strips and stir-fry for 2-3 minutes until browned.
Make the Sauce
  1. In a small bowl, whisk together soy sauce, hoisin sauce, rice vinegar, and cornstarch.
  2. Pour the sauce over the beef and let it simmer until it thickens.
Combine & Serve
  1. Add the sautéed onions back into the pan, stirring to combine.
  2. Serve hot over steamed rice or noodles.

Notes

Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container for 3-4 days in the fridge, or in the freezer for about a month. Reheat on the stovetop or microwave.
