Ingredients
  

For the patties
  • 1 lb ground beef Use lean beef for juicy patties
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs Can substitute with crushed crackers or oats
  • 1/4 cup chopped onion
  • 1 piece egg
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • to taste Salt and pepper Be generous with seasonings
For the gravy
  • 2 cups beef broth For a lighter option, use half beef and half turkey
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch Key for thickening the gravy
  • 2 tablespoons water To mix with cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil For browning the patties

Method
 

Preparation
  1. In a large bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, onion, egg, garlic powder, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Form into patties.
  2. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Brown the patties on both sides.
  3. Remove patties from skillet and keep warm.
Making the Gravy
  1. In the same skillet, add beef broth and bring to a simmer.
  2. Mix cornstarch and water to form a slurry, then stir into the broth, cooking until thickened.
  3. Return the patties to the skillet, coating them in the gravy.
Serving
  1. Serve warm with gravy, optionally garnished with chopped parsley.

Notes

Salisbury Steak can be stored in the fridge for 3-4 days in an airtight container or frozen for up to 3 months. Reheat gently to preserve the gravy.
