Ingredients
  

For the Dough
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup cocoa powder
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 3/4 cup buttermilk
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter (melted)
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tbsp red food coloring
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
For the Filling
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp cinnamon
For the Frosting
  • 1/2 cup cream cheese (softened)
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tbsp milk

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a baking dish.
  2. In a large bowl, mix together flour, cocoa powder, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, whisk together buttermilk, melted butter, egg, food coloring, and vanilla until smooth.
  4. Combine the wet and dry ingredients and mix until a dough forms.
  5. Roll the dough out into a rectangle.
  6. Spread softened butter, brown sugar, and cinnamon evenly on top.
  7. Roll the dough tightly into a log and cut into rolls.
  8. Place rolls in the greased baking dish and let rise for 30 minutes.
Baking
  1. Bake for 25-30 minutes until cooked through.
  2. For the frosting, mix cream cheese, powdered sugar, and milk until smooth, then spread over warm rolls before serving.

Notes

These rolls are best enjoyed fresh but can be stored in the fridge for about 2-3 days. They also freeze well for up to 3 months. For an even creamier texture, try replacing half the butter with cream cheese in the dough.
