Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons cocoa powder Quality cocoa powder can elevate the flavor; go for a good brand.
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
Wet Ingredients
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon red food coloring
Coating
  • Powdered sugar for rolling Roll the balls in more powdered sugar for a snowier finish.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a bowl, mix together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, combine the melted butter and sugar.
  4. Add the egg, vanilla extract, and red food coloring to the butter mixture and mix until well combined.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and mix until just combined.
  6. Chill the dough in the refrigerator for about 30 minutes.
Baking
  1. Scoop tablespoon-sized balls of dough and roll them in powdered sugar.
  2. Place them on a lined baking sheet and bake for 10-12 minutes until crinkled.
  3. Allow to cool before serving.

Notes

These cookies store well for up to one week at room temperature in an airtight container. For longer storage, they can be frozen for about 3 months. Let them thaw at room temperature or microwave for a few seconds to regain freshness.
