Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
- Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
- In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef and diced onion until browned. Drain excess grease.
- Add the marinara sauce, Italian seasoning, and season with salt and pepper. Let it simmer for a few minutes to blend the flavors.
- Spread the beef mixture evenly in the baking dish.
- Sprinkle 1 cup of cheese on top, and layer the tater tots over that.
- Top with the remaining cheese.
Baking
- Bake for 25-30 minutes until golden brown.
- If using optional toppings, add them 5 minutes before the casserole is done.
- Let it cool slightly before serving.
Notes
Leftovers can be stored in the fridge for up to 3-4 days or frozen for 2-3 months. Reheat thoroughly in the oven.
