  • 1 pound sausage Cooked and drained
  • 6 pieces eggs
  • 2 cups milk
  • 8 slices bread, cubed Day-old bread works best
  • 2 cups shredded cheese Cheddar or your choice
  • 1 teaspoon mustard
  • to taste Salt and pepper

Method
 

Preparation
  1. In a skillet, cook the sausage over medium heat until browned. Drain excess fat.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the eggs, milk, mustard, salt, and pepper. Whisk until blended.
  3. In a greased baking dish, layer the cubed bread, followed by the browned sausage.
  4. Pour the egg mixture over the bread and sausage, ensuring everything is soaked evenly.
  5. Top with shredded cheese.
  6. Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate overnight.
Baking
  1. The next morning, preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Remove the plastic wrap and bake for 45-50 minutes, or until the casserole is set and the top is golden.
  3. Let it cool slightly before serving.

Notes

Let it rest for a few minutes after baking so it holds together perfectly when you slice into it.
