Ingredients

Dough Ingredients
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 packet (2¼ teaspoons) active dry yeast
  • cups warm water (about 110°F)
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 2 tablespoons dried Italian herbs (basil, oregano, thyme, rosemary)
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • to taste extra flour for dusting

Method

Preparation
  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until frothy.
  2. Add flour, salt, Italian herbs, mozzarella, and Parmesan cheese. Mix until a sticky dough forms.
  3. Transfer to a floured surface and knead for 8-10 minutes until smooth.
  4. Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise for 1-2 hours until doubled in size.
  5. Punch down the dough, shape it, and let it rise again for 30 minutes.
  6. Preheat the oven to 450°F (230°C).
  7. Bake for 25-30 minutes until golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped.
  8. Cool on a wire rack before slicing.

Notes

Don’t rush the rising! It ensures fluffiness. Feel free to swap cheeses or use fresh herbs for added flavor. Additional ingredients like sun-dried tomatoes or jalapeños can also be added for variety. Slice before freezing for quick meals.
