Ingredients
  

Dry Ingredients
  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
Wet Ingredients
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened Make sure it's at room temperature.
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 large egg
  • Red food coloring optional Red food coloring (natural, optional) For color variation.
  • Sprinkles optional Sprinkles (optional) For decoration.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
  2. In another bowl, cream together butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Beat in vanilla and the egg until well combined.
Mixing Dough
  1. Gradually add dry ingredients to the wet mixture and mix until a dough forms.
  2. If using, divide the dough and add red food coloring to one part; mix until the color is even.
Chilling and Baking
  1. Shape both doughs into logs, wrap in parchment paper, and refrigerate for at least 2 hours.
  2. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  3. Slice the chilled logs into heart shapes and place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  4. Sprinkle with extra sprinkles if desired.
  5. Bake for 8-10 minutes or until edges are golden.
  6. Allow to cool before serving.

Notes

Store in an airtight container. They keep nicely in the fridge for up to one week or in the freezer for about three months. Reheat for a quick treat!
