Ingredients
  

Macaron Shells
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1/2 cup almond flour Make sure it's finely ground
  • 2 large egg whites (at room temperature) Room temperature gives better volume
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • as needed red or pink food coloring (optional) For a vibrant color
Buttercream Filling
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter (softened)
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract For flavor
  • 2 tablespoons heavy cream or milk
  • a pinch salt
  • as needed red food coloring (optional for buttercream filling)

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Sift the powdered sugar and almond flour into a bowl.
  2. In a separate bowl, whisk the egg whites until soft peaks form, gradually adding granulated sugar until stiff peaks form.
  3. Fold in the almond flour mixture and food coloring until smooth.
  4. Pipe heart shapes on a parchment-lined baking sheet and let rest for 30 minutes to 1 hour.
Baking
  1. Preheat the oven to 300°F (150°C) and bake for 18-20 minutes.
Buttercream Preparation
  1. For the buttercream, beat softened butter until smooth, then add powdered sugar, vanilla, salt, and heavy cream.
Assembly
  1. Once macaron shells are cooled, fill with buttercream and sandwich together.
  2. Let chill in the fridge for 24 hours for optimal flavor.

Notes

These macarons can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for about a week or frozen for up to a month. For variations, try flavors like lavender or lemon.
