  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1.5 cups sugar
  • 0.5 cups unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1.5 tsp baking powder
  • 1.5 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup milk
  • 0.5 cups vegetable oil
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup boiling water This adds moisture to the cake.
Frosting Ingredients
  • 1 cup butter Softened at room temperature.
  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • 0.5 cups cocoa powder
  • 2/3 cup milk Adjust for desired consistency.
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two heart-shaped cake pans.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Mix well.
  3. Add eggs, milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla to the dry ingredients. Mix until smooth.
  4. Carefully stir in the boiling water.
  5. Pour the batter evenly into the prepared pans.
Baking
  1. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  2. Let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then remove them and place on a wire rack to cool completely.
Frosting
  1. In a bowl, cream the butter. Gradually add powdered sugar and cocoa powder, alternating with milk until you reach desired consistency.
  2. Once cooled, frost one layer, stack the other layer on top, and frost the top and sides.
  3. Decorate as desired and serve!

Notes

For a lighter texture, use cake flour instead of all-purpose flour. To enhance flavor, substitute melted butter for vegetable oil and add espresso powder to the batter.
