Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 1 pound ground beef Use lean ground beef for a healthier twist.
  • 1 medium onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 medium green bell pepper, thinly sliced
  • 1 cup mushrooms, sliced (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder Don't skip toasting the garlic for added flavor!
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • Salt, to taste
  • Black pepper, to taste
  • 4 slices provolone cheese (or any cheese of your preference) Feel free to swap different cheeses like cheddar or mozzarella.
  • 4 rolls hoagie Store-bought hoagie rolls work just fine.
  • Olive oil, for cooking

Method

Preparation
  1. In a large skillet, drizzle olive oil and heat over medium-high.
  2. Add the sliced onions and bell peppers. Sauté for about 3–5 minutes until tender. If using mushrooms, toss them in now and cook for an additional 3 minutes.
  3. Push veggies to the side, add ground beef to the skillet, breaking it apart. Cook until no longer pink, about 5–7 minutes.
  4. Stir in garlic powder, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Mix well for about 2 minutes.
  5. Reduce heat to low and place a slice of cheese over the beef mixture, covering the skillet to melt for about 2–3 minutes.
  6. Slice hoagie rolls lengthwise without cutting all the way through.
  7. Spoon the beef and vegetable mixture into each roll.
  8. Optionally, toast the rolls before serving.

Notes

Serve with a side of crispy fries or a fresh salad. Add toppings like jalapeños or pickles for extra crunch. If you have leftovers, store them in the fridge for up to 3-4 days or freeze for up to 3 months.
