Main ingredients
  • 1 lb ground beef Use lean ground beef for a healthier option.
  • 1 medium onion, chopped Yellow or white onion works well.
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced Fresh garlic preferred.
  • 2 cans kidney beans, drained and rinsed
  • 1 can diced tomatoes 28 oz can.
  • 1 can tomato sauce 8 oz can.
  • 1 cup beef broth Use low-sodium broth if preferred.
Spices
  • 2 tbsp chili powder Adjust to taste for desired spiciness.
  • 1 tsp cumin
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • to taste Salt and pepper

Method
 

Cooking the Chili
  1. In a large pot, brown the ground beef over medium heat.
  2. Add the onions and garlic, cooking until the onions are translucent.
  3. Stir in the kidney beans, diced tomatoes, tomato sauce, and beef broth.
  4. Season with chili powder, cumin, paprika, salt, and pepper.
  5. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and let simmer for about 30 minutes to an hour, stirring occasionally.
Serving
  1. Serve hot, garnished with your favorite toppings such as shredded cheese, sour cream, or fresh cilantro.

Notes

For a healthier option, use ground turkey or chicken. For vegetarians, omit meat and add more beans or lentils. Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 3-4 days or frozen for longer storage.
