Ingredients
  

Main ingredients
  • 2 slices slices bread Any kind of bread works.
  • 1 large egg Beaten well.
  • ½ cup (2 oz) grated cheese (cheddar, pepper jack, or gruyere) Choose your favorite cheese.
  • 1 teaspoon finely chopped fresh herbs (thyme or rosemary) Fresh herbs add flavor.
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste For seasoning.
  • Pinch of cayenne pepper (optional) For a spicy kick.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Lightly toast the bread by broiling it for 1 to 2 minutes on each side.
  2. Preheat your oven to 400°F. If using a toaster oven, set the cooking rack to the bottom and select the 'BAKE' setting.
  3. Crack the egg into a small bowl and beat it with a fork until the yolk and white are well mixed.
  4. Stir in grated cheese and chopped herbs, then season with salt and pepper.
  5. Spread the egg mixture over the toasted bread slices, covering them completely. If desired, sprinkle a little cayenne on top.
Cooking
  1. Bake in the oven for 10 to 12 minutes, until puffed, bubbly, and slightly golden.
Alternate Method
  1. Preheat your air fryer to 340°F.
  2. Prepare the egg mixture as above and spread it onto the untoasted bread slices.
  3. Place in the air fryer basket carefully and air fry for 8 to 10 minutes, or until perfectly toasted and cooked through.

Notes

For extra flavor, serve with fresh herbs on top and pair with crispy bacon or fruit salad. Leftovers can be stored in the fridge for up to 3 days. Reheat in the oven or air fryer.
