Ingredients
  

Cookie Base
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened Make sure it's at room temperature.
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Dry Ingredients
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
Mix-Ins
  • 2 cups semisweet chocolate chips
  • 1 cup chopped walnuts or pecans (optional) Omit if nut-free.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, cream together the butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  4. In a separate bowl, combine the flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
  6. Fold in the chocolate chips and nuts, if using.
Baking
  1. Drop spoonfuls of dough onto the prepared baking sheet, leaving some space between each cookie.
  2. Bake for 9-11 minutes or until the edges are lightly golden.
  3. Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

Let the cookies cool enough to harden slightly for the best texture. Adjust mix-ins and flavors to your preference.
